In this exhibition I experiment and explore the relationships between fine art, illustration, and sculpture. Despite the varying levels of each media, almost all my work is characterized by personification and animation of the world, usually through bright colors and illustrative imagery that bring wonder and delight into everyday objects and animals. This can take its form through little red clown noses, the color pink, googly eyes, or vaguely cat shaped forms. Together, these elements create a style that links together all of my work, no matter where it lands on the spectrum of media.
As humans, we search for faces around us, but often miss them unless they are two eyes and a mouth staring back at us. My work uses a deceptive simplicity and familiar subject matter to help us create these connections and gain empathy for the non-human, even if it may just be a worm, flower, or carton of milk. Through interacting with my work, I hope that you don’t just hear my story, but theirs as well. And hopefully you can take a little bit of it with you (both literally and figuratively).
